Paul Barber's Scrumdown August08.
On Sunday 17th of August's Scrumdown Brother Paul Barber gave a talk on "The Protection Of God And His Power To Heal Our Wounds."
A plaster was given to each brother in attendance as a reminder of both gods protection and power to heal. We then looked at Ephesians 6, identifying the battle we our in daily as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ and the importance of putting on the Armour Of God.
It was then identified that when in spiritual warfare it is important for us not to remove the armour as it can result in us being wounded or even worse killed.
However in our humanity and weakness their are times in our lives of faith when we do forget to put the armour on and we develop unnecessary wounds and scars. But Jesus has healed our wounds and overcome the power of sin and death by his work on the cross. (See Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24). This act of unselfish love being the power to heal in our lives. Brothers once again, "IT IS FINISHED!"

Phil Atkinson's Scrumdown June08.
Gentleman, I’ve got two items for you this morning.
An arrow and a target.
The arrow is straight and true it’s made of a shaft, a point, a nock and three vanes. The target is something to aim for. And that’s the subject of this lesson.
In Mark 12 Jesus is discussing with the Sadducees (those priestly, aristocratic Jews) the Torah, the law when he’s asked about which is the most important commandment.
So, splicing together two passages from the Torah, he says. “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, and with all your mind” (Deut 6:5). “This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Lev 19:18).”
Mark 12 – 29-31
29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
So, the arrow is you at the start of each day. The target represents the end of the day.
To get to the target the arrow has to do two things. It has to travel through the day and it has to be aimed at the target.
This target has two colours. The gold centre represents God and the red represents your neighbour.
For me, being a simple man, I like things to be very simple.
Each day you are given a fresh arrow of opportunity, we are commanded to love God and love our neighbour it’s very simple. As an arrow travels towards a target there are things influencing it, aim, wind, the condition of the arrow, the condition of the vanes.
And Life is like the arrow lots of influences that distract us from reaching our target. And we often miss the target and what is important in everything we do each day is aim to love God and love our neighbour”
So the lesson is:
Love God and Love your Neighbour or at least always be aiming to do this
OK. That’s the lesson, I don’t care what you do with the arrow, put it in a draw etc but it’s important that you stick the target somewhere where you will see it every day. If you want one for home and one for work, see me after this prayer. Let us pray:
“Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for bringing us all safely through another week so that we can meet right here, right now, as a band of brothers in your presence. I ask that you send us out from here with a heart to aim to hit the target that you have set before us of loving you and loving our neighbour.” Amen.
